September 24 Back againIt has been more than a year since my last entry and I think I need to update this blog. Time has passed very quickly a lots of things have changed in the last months. I’m going to start where I left it in July last year and try to summarize what I’ve been doing the last year.
First of all….yes!, I did got my driving license and I got also a job!. I passed my driving exam early October and in November I started my first job. Finally I didn’t go to London and I went to Dublin for several reasons but the most important one was that Chris (my flatmate from Finland) was there. So, now I live with him in a nice house in the north of the city.
Dublin is very good; there are tons of concerts and live music bars which was something I really missed in the last years. The city is quite young and multicultural, there are people from everywhere specially polish, Spanish and Italians.
The job is great, very flexible and interested, although is still a job and is not as fun as playing guitar… I work as a Software Engineer for IBM. I’m learning a lot here and the IBM flexible policy allows me to travel a lot without any inconvenience.
During the last 8 months I’ve been in many countries. I just came back from my main holidays in Cuba which was a great experience that I would recommend to you. I also was in Sweden, Belgium, Latvia, Poland, Hungary, Spain, Slovakia, Austria, Italy and Croatia in the last months. My next trip is to Spain next months and Denmark in November. If anyone wants to join let me know.
As many of you know, I have a band here in Dublin with just two members. We released a demo in July and is available in www.myspace.com/losthorizonband You can download the 5 songs in that site and you can leave any comment if you want to. Right now we are learning new songs (covers) and we are planning to start playing live in October. We also expect to release a small demo with two songs at the end of the year titled “The distant sun”.
I will start uploading pictures again soon. Sorry for not keeping the site updated but I was very busy with the job/band and also I’ve been having lots of troubles getting internet connexion here. June 15 UPdateWell, I don't have much time to write but I will sumarize the best I can what I've been doing.
I got back from US in the middle of may. The lasts weeks there were crazy, I had to study a lot but everything turned okay. When I got here I spent some time with friends and family but at the end of May I had to go back to work. I'm still taking summer courses from K-State thru Distance learning. I have two courses and my final project that are keeping me really busy. During the week I'm in my parents flat in Coruña just by the beach (but I'm too busy to go there) and the weekends I'm going home.
Besides that I'm also taking my driver lessons which are really hard, next Tuesday I have the theory exams, let's see how it goes.
On my free time I'll try to spend time playing guitar with my friends, basketball, go to concerts.....
I would like to start a project with my friends and record some songs, we need one bass player to start working.... right now, we are just trying to play some of my songs and see how that turn out.
July 1st I'm going to Germany for 4 days with one friend, so if anyone can come please contact me.
After that, I'll stay in July in Spain studying and going to summer festivals. I'll be done with my courses at the end of July and I'm planning to go somewhere else the first two weeks in August. Then, I will have to start working, probably in London. If anyone want to come, contact me!!!!.
Ok, I hope everybody is doing okay. See You!!
P.S. By the way I'm almost done with my personal web page
March 16 Music Chart / Before Spring BreakMusic Charts

I have updated my music list, now I have 4155 albums. Tell me if you want any.
http://www.cis.ksu.edu/~jramos/l1.pdf
I'm going I'm a few hours to the Caribbean (Cozumel and then Cancun). I'll be back in one week. I'll post the pictures. Hope everybody is doing well. I have to go to take an exam. More later.
Adios. February 07 Alt. Country Top 20Well, I think I starting to like making lists and "top-tens" of everything. So, I was looking at the "best 2005" at http://www.americana-uk.com and I decided to rearrange the list according to my opinion. Well, here we go, the top 20:
Well, probably I'm mssing a lot of artists, let's see if my brother help me.
Check the Americana-UK Top at:
And now the top 10 artists of all the time:
And Again, probably I'm missing some. I hope this helps, and if you don't know this people you better start listenning to them or you'll be missing something in your life.
The last good movies that I saw and you may like are: Brokeback Mountain, Capote and the new Gearge Clooney movie Good Night and Good luck. I hope Brokeback Mountain wins some Oscar but I think is no so good, I like better A Home at the End of the World od Mysterious Skin. Check the IMDB's Oscar Poll at:
You can vote there. My choices are:
Well, it's too late and tomorrow I have two exams, but I always ended up doing other things besides studing, I hate computers too much. Ok, folks! Hope you are okay, don't forget to leave any comment. Good Night and Good Luck!.
February 04 UpdateHello People!!!!!!!!!!
Finally, I updated the site. I uploaded lots of pictures from the past months. Also, I bought a new 320GB external hard drive and put all my music together, I juat made the list. You can download it from:
There are about 3700 albums. If you want anything tell me. You can also download music from me using Soulseek (www.slsknet.org) and adding me in the contact list, my nick is stomp442.
Well....My life is okay, it's weird but I'm having a great time here in Bushland. Like in Finland I'm pretty busy, studying during the day and going out almost everyday during the night. The only problem here is that this town is full of cops and you can't do anything stupid like last year.
Hopefully I will go somewhere from Spring break, maybe Florida. Also, I'm coming back to Spain June 1st. But I have to take two summer courses and finish my final project during June and July, so I can't travel till August. So, I hope someone comes to Spain to visit me.
The people from Finland we should meet again this summer, maybe Italy, I found tickets from Spain to Rome fro 50 euros, so it's really cheap. Even if you want to go June or July I can escape for a couple of days.
Another important issue is that I'm planning to go to London in September and start working there. So, if someone just finished the studies and wants to come to London contact me!!!!. London can be really fun.
Well, I think that's all. Hope everybody is doing fine.
Enjoy the music and have fun.
See you! November 30 Best Movies by Decade and other stuffI was looking at a forum in www.imdb.com and they were talking about the best movies by decade, so this is what I think:
1920's: Ok, this is very easy; we are probably talking about the golden age in movies and generally in art. Here we have a clear winner and one of my favorites: German expressionism. I like F.W. Murnau a lot, especially his movies Nosferatu and Faust, but I guess my favorite director is Fritz Lang and my favorite movie Metropolis (1927), this movie is a master piece and its ideas have been copied in many other movies such matrix. But this happens all the time, nowadays there are not original movies. You may find people that think that, for example, Donnie Darko is very original, that's because they didn't see "Harvey". I'm not saying that Donnie Darko is a bad movie, I really like it, but is not so original. Look at Tarantino, he is a genius but he didn't introduce anything new. Also, I would like to mention the movie The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari(1920), another master piece of the German expressionism and one of my all time favorite horror movies along with Nosferatu, the video Otherside from the Red hot chili peppers is a copy of the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Also, Fritz Lang has The Three Lights (1921) which I saw few days ago and I really like it. And in case you don’t know….yes, in the 20’s there was no sound, so this movies are silent, you don’t need sound to make a good movie. Metropolis is a lot more complex, entertaining, and original than Matrix and doesn’t need any special effects.
1930’s: In this decade, we continue with Fritz Lang, in 1931 he made the best Thriller that has been done so far better than Seven, Saw and the other famous crap. The movie is call M and is one of my favorites. Here we also have to talk about Frank Capra, the Steven Spielberg from the 30’s and 40’s. I really like him and is also one of my favorites directors. He made his best movies in the 30’s: It Happened One Night (1934), Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)… but my favorite is Lost Horizon (1937), is not so famous because some parts of the movie are missing but I really love this movie. We can’t forget here Charles Chaplin, he was awesome, my favorite is Modern Times (1936) but you should also check City Lights (1931). In this decade, they were also made Frankenstein and King Kong.
1940’s: ok, here we have a big change….the Hollywood golden era. The best movies in this decade were made in US (Hollywood). Many people will argue that this was the golden age in movies. We have many good directors such Orson Welles, Otto Preminger, Billy Wilder or Alfred Hitchcock. My favorite is still Frank Capra, in 1946 he made It's a Wonderful Life which is a great, great movie. There are so many movies that I just going to mention some: Casablanca (1942), Citizen Kane (1941), Double Indemnity (1944), The Great Dictator (1940), Notorious (1946), Laura (1944), Ladri di biciclette (1948), Arsenic and Old Lace (1944, another great Capra comedy).
1950’s: In the 50’s we have basically the same directors doing more great movies. I have to mention Stanley Kubrick who started in the 50’s, my favorite from this decade is Paths of Glory (1957), another war movie that I liked from the 50’s is the Russian Ballada o soldate (1959). Also, 12 Angry Men (1957) was the first movie that I saw in B&W, the movie takes place the whole time in the same room but is very, very entertaining. In this decade we have to mention the great Japanese director Akira Kurosawa, he did his best movie in 1954, The Seven Samurai, one all time classic that everyone shoud see. He also directed Rashômon (1950) and Ikiru (1952). Other good movies are: Sunset Blvd. (1950), Vertigo (1958), All About Eve (1950), Some Like It Hot (1959), Touch of Evil (1958).
Ok, I have to go to sleep, I will continue another day with the other half of the century....
Please, feel free to live any comments!. I have more pictures also to upload, but I don't have space, I guess I will wait till Christmas to delete some albums and put more photos.
See you! September 20 War MoviesOk, I just watched the south korean movie Taegukgi. I have to say that I'm still really impressed, the movie is great. I'm a big fan of Asian movies (especially south korean), and this is the first korean war movie that I have seen. I'm going to talk now a little bit about war movies and another day about Asian movies.
So,taegukgi.....first, this infamous war took place from 1950 till 1953. The movie focus on the relation of two brothers during the war, I really recommend everyone this movie. Is not the usual hollywood movie where they only focus on the winner. For me, it's the best war movie I have ever seen, great acting, story, battles....I'm not a big fan of war movies but this one is really good. Before seeing this movie check some info. about this crazy war on the internet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_War
Of course there are more movies....., focus on the WWII and the holocaust you have Spielberg Schindler's List, Life Is Beautiful or The Pianist, those are famous movies that evryone must see. Schindler's List is a long movie about this german guy who helped some jews during the war and Spielberg does a great job on this one, Spilberg also has save private ryan, but I have to say that I didn't like that much, the beginning is really good but compare to Taegukgi is not so good, and if you see both you may find some similarities.
One of my favorites is Kubrick's Paths of Glory (1957), is one of the few WWI movies and is about this soldiers who refuse to continue a impossible attack. You may want to check also the other kubrick classic Full metal Jacket.
Since I'm a big Ingmar Bergman fan, I have to mention Shame but is this a war movie? it takes place during the war but is a bergman movie......anyway, I really like this movie.
Francis Ford Coppola Apocalypse Now (1979) is another classic, I also got impressed with this movie that focus more on the psychological side of the war, just like Jacob's Ladder. Ballad of a soldier (1959), is a beautiful russian movie that I really liked. There are more russian war movies that seen to be really good but are really hard to find and I didn't see yet, like: Letyat zhuravli (1957), Voyna i mir (1968), Andrey Rublyov (1969).....
Hotel Rwanda is movie about the genocide that occur in Rwanda not so long ago. For me this movie is good to see and learn about what happened in Rwanda but is not so good movie.
Then there are some movies that I didn't see yet like the classics Lawrence of Arabia or The Bridge on the River Kwai. I'm also downloading Downfall that looks really interesting.
So, I will try to write my top war movies, leave any comment if you don't agree....
1. Taegukgi.
2. Paths of Glory.
3. Schindler's List
4. Ballad of a soldier.
5. Shame.
6. Apocalypse Now.
7. Life is Beautiful.
8. Full metal Jacket.
9. The Pianist.
10. Save Private Ryan.
Ok, I hope you find this information useful and If you haven't seen some of the these movies hurry up and download/rent them. Other movies that I just saw and I recommend are: Crash, Sin City, Sideways or Machuca (from Chile).
I also uploaded some pictures from my birthday party on friday, yes is sad but true....another year more...., I will also upload soon pictures from the Mexican independece day party that took place this saturday.
Also, I booked already the flight to Prague, I'll be going from december 26th to 30th, I hope to see many people from Mikkeli there.....
So, I hope everybody is doing fine. Take care......

July 11 Finally!!! Big UpdateHey!, I finally got some time to update my blog. It's been a long time....
Last days in Finland were Crazy and I didn't have time to update my blog. I was working on my diploma work and going out on my free time. But everything turned all right. I finished my diploma work and passed all my exams getting my bachelor degree a couple weeks ago in Spain. I also got he scholarship to go to US next year to get my masters degree. I'll be leaving august 11th to Kansas to study there a whole year.
I have put a lot of pictures. Starting from the great Moas Awards party were we gave to each other some diplomas about some funny things. We finished the party at 8 in the morning swimming on the lake totaly drunk, and the water was really cold. Is a pitty that I can't upload videos, some of them are really funny.
I also put pictures from the Vappu in Helsinki. Great party! Helsinki was totaly different, full of people!.
Oh!! By the way...probaly most of you already know but I cut my hair!. I know it was a stupid thing but.......it was a surprise for my mother.
Then, I put pictures from the last parties: Dominik birthday, last thrusday, goodbye party (where, as you can see, we exchange the clothes), dinner at Fernado,...
After that, may 22th I went back home, I arrived to Spain may 23th and I left to United States may 24th with my mother because we had to go to a wedding. The daugther of the family I was leaving with the year I was studing in US got married. So, we spent there(Ohio) a Couple weeks and we also visited New York. I finally got the chance to visit this crazy city, it was great.
Then on june 6th I came back to Spain. I put some pictures of my time in spain in june. Also, I put pictues from "San Juan" which is a party that we celebrate on the night of june 23th. We make big fires to get rid of the witches. But it is just another excuse to make a party, we also jump the fire.
Also, at the end of june I went to the south of Spain, to visit the spanish comunity. Cristobal, Coralie and her boyfriend were also there. We had a great time. I spent one week there, we went out almost everyday, just like in mikkeli but there is vere hot not like finland, we go up to 42 degrees.
And finally, this weekend I was in a big folk festival in a town near to mine (Mundo Celta). Is a small town (2.000 people) but in the festival they were like 80.000 people. I put also some pictures from the last party in Finland before leaving and my diploma work presentation.
So, that's all I been doing....I will try to update the blog more often. Please leave comments!.
Next weekend a festival in my town will begin. From july 15 to 25th. We had a lot of free concerts and other events. july 24th everybody goes to river and we spend the night there and there's also concerts. The people builds shelter by the river and sleep there....I will put pictures of that.
See you!
April 25 Beer GameOk,ok.... after having 4 exams this friday on saturday we had the beer game. It was simple:
And what can I say.....it was crazy, more than a beer competition was a puke competition. Luckily I was the first out with 34 shots. I ate too much, so when the game started my stomach began to fill with gas and I couldn't let it out so I had to stop becuase my stomach was about to explode (see the pictures!). Now I'm glad that I stop becuase if you see how the winners end.... First, I have to say that the polish won. The last 5 persons were polish. The spanish did really bad and manolo was the last one having like 70 shots. Poland won in all categories. In womens, my polish friends Justina and Agnieszka won, drinking 145 shot of beer. WOW thiat's almost 6 liters... they were drinking for more than two hours one shot each minute.
The winner was Pawel, my neighbour with 180!! shots, in second position my flatmate dominik with 179. Domink couldn't resit and on the 179th shot he had to puke my delicius spagettis that I had prepared....
So, check the pictures! This weekend I will go to helsinki, there's a big party on the 1st may...let's see. Tomorrow I have two exams, so I can't write more. The exams so far, so good. And my diploma work now is going well.... See you! April 19 Exams!!!!Ok, it seens that the party is over... Friday I have 3 exams and yesterday I also started writing my diploma work, so in pretty busy right now...I'm just wainting for saturday to win the beer competition.... The weekend was okay. We played football, skateboarding,...... Tomorrow Javi is coming back to Mikkeli!!!!!. So, I can go again with him to roller to listen some rock'n'roll.... I have update the site putting two more albums: one with a bunch of pictures from Spain and other with some pictures from the last parties here in Mikkeli. I can't write anything, I'm too busy!!!. See you! I leave a picture of Balu (Roberto's dog).......
April 15 First Try...Ok, so here it is, my first entry in my blog. I think I will just talk about what I'm doing right now and what articles I'm going to write in the next months.... First, my time here in Finland is almost over, it's funny how time passes by when you are having fun. The main problem is my fucking diploma work that is driving me crazy and I don't know if I will be able to finish it, maybe If it's posible I will have to come back here in june to finish it, becuase if I don't I will lose the scholarship to go to US next year, now I'm waiting to see if Kansas State University accept me for the next year. Ok, now let's talk about my hobbies.... First, of course, music. I mean, rock 'n' roll. Maybe tomorrow Jukkis will bring his drums and amplifiers to my room to play I little bit.....let's see how it goes. About the music I'm listenning right now, some new albums I got are:
About Stoner Rock the last albums I got are the new dead meadow album "Feathers" which is really good, the new Hermano album "Dare I say" on which you can here John Garcia again, also they will be playing the 29th of may in Madrid in the Festimad. And also Nº 3 from Firebird which has some good riffs. For the people who doesn't know what stoner rock is check the address www.stonerrock.com . Like my bussiness teacher always says "always reference your sources" Also, the other day I picked some old albums thhat I was listening maybe 7 or 8 years ago. Like the first Bush album (very popular in the middle 90's) or Days of the New or Tool ( toolshed.down.net ). About movies, now I've been watching a lot of oriental movies. The last one I saw was "The way home" this South Korean movie is about this 7 year old kid who goes to live for a while with his grandmother. The kid like all the kid is a selfish motherfucker who treats his grandma like shit, the grandma is dumb and there's almost no speech but those who where mean to your grandma like me are going to feel this movie a lot and a felling of regret will invade you, but kids are kids and are selfish of nature, unfortunately lot of people don't change that.... I will write an article about oriental movies soon talking about the last movies I saw like On missed call od death Friend. About Sports I have to say that I'm not going anymore to basketball training, now I don't have time but today I have talk to Matias and maybe we will buy a skateboard and try to remenber something from what we learned we we were young. So, if anyone in Mikkeli wants to join us.... So, that's all from now. I put also some pictures from the last trips and events like the great trip to Riga and Vilnius, the crazy Stockholm and the last sauna party and Slegding. So, enjoy the pictures!!! and feel free to leave any comments!. |
